Bridging the Gap

Eimear Walsh is a primary school teacher and a fully qualified Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach with a Children’s Yoga Instructor qualification and a Certificate in Mindfulness for Children. Emma Lloyd is a secondary school teacher who is a fully qualified Guidance Counsellor and Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach.

Together we have collaborated on our individual experiences and qualifications to create the first online transitioning course for the ‘incoming first years 2021’. This 2 hour, pupil centered, online Zoom course, ‘Bridging the Gap’ is tailored for all pupils offering guidance and support. We are aware that all pupils face both social and academic transformation as they embark on the transition from primary into secondary school. As September 2021 marks the 2nd academic year post covid, this is no ordinary transition for primary school leavers. There is a whole new way of being which we are all learning to adapt to.

In these challenging times, our workshop endeavours to provide practical tools and tips in preparation for making the transition to secondary school. The objective of this course is to help pupils discover their true sense of worth whilst empowering them with the self-belief and confidence to adapt and grow in their new surroundings.

Through the 90 minute workshop we aim to:

- help pupils to realize their own power and discover their true sense of self-worth

- equip them with lifelong tools for facing and overcoming challenges during this new chapter in their life

-highlight the positive and negative influence of social media

We will also be holding a 30-minute post-course appraisal for parents and guardians offering guidance and support.
