SO WHAT’S EMMA'S STORY, YOU ASK?
Emma is mum to two beautiful boys, Bobby aged 6 and Frankie aged 1. Emma has been a home economics secondary school teacher for over 12 years and after completing a number of courses around mental health and anxiety in teens she found passion and desire to help people become the best versions of themselves. She is a qualified mental health and wellbeing coach and graduated from Maynooth University with a 2.1 in her postgraduate in guidance counselling. Emma is a guidance counsellor in a local school where she works full time around her busy family life and private clients. Emma’s passion for wellbeing and helping others is the driving force behind what she does.
WHO IS EMMA TO BE HELPING YOU WITH THIS?
Emma has always had a passion for wellbeing and is a big believer in ‘practice what you preach’, so everything Emma teaches her students about mindfulness, meditation, sleep, exercise, nutrition, good health and growth mindset she implements in her own life. Emma believes that everything is about balance. Teaching students and clients how to create this balance in their lives has led Emma to grow, build and develop E.M.S Guidance.
WHY DO I CARE SO MUCH?
Growing up in today’s world is not easy. We all face challenges, stress levels are increased and social media has made the world an interesting, but sometimes a scary place to live in. Too often teenagers feel overwhelmed in today’s world, life becomes too much, stress levels become unbearable and teens don’t know what do to, how to look after themselves or how to take back control. Emma believes that there is not one answer that fits all. In order for a teen to be truly happy they have to learn to love themselves first, they need to learn how to look after themselves, look at all areas in their life and identify the steps they need to take, this sounds simple but for teens it is not they don’t know where to start.
Emma would say that sometimes we take our minds for granted; we leave them running and forget to service them. Taking care of our mind is key to taking care of ourselves, creating balance in our life and creating good habits. Emma teaches her students ways to create balance and fulfilment in their lives and ways to stay mentally fit.
Emma believes we need to teach young teens to stop chasing perfection, to be themselves and to understand that they are all unique. Good mental health isn’t about changing yourself it is about living with yourself, learning to love your mind and enjoying your life.
